About us Bar Ikkyu is the only one Japanese shochu bar in San Francisco since 2004. Shochu Bar, mainly sales shochu, is very popular a kaid of a bar in Japan. So, we always offer to drink shochu to our costomers more than sake. Sake is also one of Japanese traditional drink and it's great famous drink, but in now days, Japanese people drink shochu much more than sake often because shochu has many way to drink, many different kinds made from, and much stronger than sake! However, in America, not so many people know about Japanese shochu. Thus, if you don't know shochu, please please try it!! You are going to find your favorite flavor!!
What is Shochu?
Shochu is a distilled beverage native to Japan.
It is most commonly distilled from barley, sweet potatoes, or rice. Typically, it contains 25% alcohol by volume (weaker than whisky or standard-strength vodka but stronger than wine and sake).
Shch is produced everywhere in Japan,
yet the home of shochu is Kysh island. (Wikipedia)

Yukata Matsuri
For August, 10, We are planning to have "Yukata Matsuri"!! We just got some new bartenders, and this event will be the first event experience at Ikkyu for them. Also, this event will be good time to know new bartenders at Ikkyu. Please join us and having fun with us!
Yukata: is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton. People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon-odori festivals, and other summer events. The yukata is also frequently worn after bathing at traditional Japanese inns. Though their use is not limited to after-bath wear, yukata literally means bath(ing) clothes.
Like other forms of traditional Japanese clothing yukata are made with straight seams and wide sleeves. Unlike formal kimono, which are made of silk, yukata are typically made of cotton or synthetic fabrics, and are unlined.
Traditionally yukata were mostly made of indigo-dyed cotton but today a wide variety of colors and designs are available. As with kimono, the general rule with yukata is that younger people wear brighter colors and bolder patterns than older people. A child might wear a multicolored print and a young woman, a floral print, while an older woman would confine herself to a traditional dark blue with geometric patterns. Since the late 1990s, yukata have experienced a revival. by Wikipedia
Events at IKKYU We have an event least once a mounth. Every mounth we try to make them different. However, our events are always with funny or kind of Japanese traditional costumes!! For example, in cherry blossom Nights, all bartenders wear yukata(A yukata is a Japanese garment, a casual summer kimono usually made of cotton. People wearing yukata are a common sight in Japan at fireworks displays, bon-odori festivals, and other summer events. by wikipedia.). Please join our event!!
